LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
Shayne Berlin respectfully acknowledges that the land on which she resides and creates her ceramics is situated on the traditional territories of the Anishinabewaki, Wendake-Nionwentsïo, Haudenosaunee, Mississauga, and Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. This acknowledgement is essential to recognize and honour the Indigenous peoples who have stewarded this land since time immemorial.
Shayne Berlin Ceramics honours the deep-rooted history and ongoing presence of Indigenous communities in what is currently known as Toronto, ON. It is a necessary step towards reconciliation, acknowledging the impacts of colonialism and striving for a more just and equitable future.
This acknowledgment relates directly to the work of Shayne Berlin Ceramics as it emphasizes the interconnectedness of all aspects of life, including art and the land on which it is created. By recognizing the traditional territories, Shayne acknowledges her responsibility as an artist to respect and uphold Indigenous rights and perspectives.
Shayne's relationship to this territory is one of deep respect and gratitude. She acknowledges the privilege of living and working on this land and recognizes her responsibility to learn from and support Indigenous communities.
